Path and Sequence

Defining my path and sequence:


I would like to design the proposal focusing on students use and people and the like who are generally interested in cinema the experience and the design.

The experience will start from turning the corner of Renfrew road into the small street before entering the estate.  As history and past is important in the design, changing the appearance in a subtle way, adding props to the area and changing the atmosphere are all ideas.  Turn right the area into old London, or similar idea to a film set.  With permanent film and cinema props on display outside, such as old unused reels, files, boxes.  Changing the street furniture and possibly using some of the film posters to advertise along this road are all thoughts.


Moving into the grounds of the Cinema Museum, the site again like a cinema set, with props.



Visitors meet the beautiful building, which stands against the new modern builds around the area.


The entrance will be the centre door of the main body of the building, as it is now, leading to a long corridor.  The entrance/foyer area will have many adverts and signs for films being screened and for any exhibitions on in the building.


Go through a ticket system


Visitors will be allowed to go around the museum free will.  2 or 3 rooms will be old cinemas, eg a screen in a cafe ( similar to the first ideas for cinema), the 10s (when buildings were built purposely for cinema) and the 30s (strong influence in art deco).


Short films from the archives can be screened and any students who would want to exhibit their films.


There will be a large library holding all the books, magazines, booklets, and periodicals the cinema owns, which is a vast collection.  An idea is to extend the building to the back and use this space for the library.


Looking at the chaos i am interested in the idea of how this can work, Francis Bacons studio was chaotically organised, but he knew where things were.  I like the idea of allowing the visitors to search through the collection to find there own findings, rather than be told to look at something in a case.  I believe interaction is key and should be important in the design factor.  Allowing the people to experience the collection first hand as well as use the library.  he dark room can be rented out to students or anyone who would like to use it to develop old film.  Students can use the library, as well as people who need specialist books and data.
