Field of Study

WHO ARE THE CLIENTS?
Martin and Ron (owners of the Cinema Museum)

THEIR REQUIREMENTS:
Need the collection to speak for itself - redesign
Show the experience of going to the cinema, how can the visitors gain this experience?
Show the history
Multiple use, displaying collection limits this possibility
People come to use the archives, need space for them to work
Hold home movie days, so a place to show films
Storage

OTHER:
Francis Bacons studio
'Day of the Triffids' Wyndham, John

REQUIREMENTS OF THE BRIEF
Analyse the building on site
Establish a design brief for a new social program
Develop my ideas
Use drawing and film to show understanding development for a design project
Use Film, analyse
Cinematic and architectural process and methodologies
Explore the design of space in, through and for film.
Use of sets/locations/manipulation - transport the viewer into an artificial place - illusion
How might one experience the cinema museum in the 21st Century???

HOW WILL I MEET THE REQUIREMENTS
Photographs, draw, survey, film the building and site
Create my own brief from my research
USe film making, drawing, sketching, writing to develop my ideas - find a way to present it without the need for speech.
Make and analyse films about the site, people, collection, related ideas and concepts.
Think spatially when making and designing films
Think how the surrounding/site/sets from films, can help influence the design proposal.
Think about a period in the future I am designing for.
What needs to be displayed and how for the 21st century.
Interaction is key

WHERE IS THE SITE?
Kennington, South London
Quiet residential estate
Near Kennington and Elephant and CAstle tube stations
Not advertised - word of mouth
Isolated, lonely, unknown
Site is on top of one another, as is the collection
Fairly large building divided by small rooms, how can this be used effectively?

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE?
9th FEB 10

WHEN IN THE 21ST CENTURY?
2035 or 2050

WHY RESEARCH THE SITE?
Find out what the client needs and how it can be accomplished.
How can the site be redesigned
Find out what the site has to offer
What can be used?
What needs to change?
See what methods have been put in place already, do they work?
What is exciting and intriguing to work with?
