Shadows

Shadows come from an absence of light and can appear from different ways.

Primary shadows |  a shadow formed on a subject by contours and projections on its own surface, e.g. a shadow on a face by the persons nose.

Secondary shadows | a shadow of the subject onto its surroundings, e.g. a persons shadow on a wall.

Tertiary shadow | a shadow cast by the subject onto other nearby objects, e.g. a falling leafs shadow on a person below.

False shadow | The impression of a shadow which isn't really there.

Shadows are often used decoratively, but for this they need to be string and defined.  Often shadows can become distorted, faint and broken up.  However a broken shadow can be quite effective, as I am looking at braking up light then this is quite useful and can be used.
